Our Preventive Dental Care and Diagnostic Services Include
Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
An oral evaluation is recommended every six months to detect areas of decay and other dental problems. This will also allow our team to discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding your child’s oral health.
Dental Cleanings (Prophylaxis)
Regular dental cleanings help keep your child’s gums healthy and teeth cavity-free. A dental cleaning includes plaque and calculus (tartar) removal, as well as polishing of the teeth to remove stains. Depending on the severity of calculus on your child’s teeth, our team may recommend a cleaning more often than every six months.
Topical Fluoride
Fluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevents tooth decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at our office biannually as an important component of dental care. If you have any questions regarding fluoride, please ask our staff!
Diagnostic Radiographs
Intraoral X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool used to identify decay, extra teeth, bone defects, tumors, and cysts. X-rays also help our team to accurately chart previous dental procedures completed at other offices. Advances in technology now reduce radiation exposure and produce instant, high-quality images that can be viewed by the dentist and the patient. Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are made of a resin material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth (commonly permanent molars) to prevent cavities. The sealant material fills in the grooves of a tooth and “seals” off the tooth from cavity-causing agents, such as sugary and sticky foods and drinks.
Mouthguards
Children who play sports are at a higher risk of dental injuries. It’s important to protect your child’s smile if he or she is an athlete, for aesthetic as well as health reasons. Made from impressions of your child’s teeth, custom mouthguards fit comfortably and provide better quality protection than store-bought mouthguards. Once the impression is taken, our team will make your child’s mouthguard and send you home with it the same day.
